Former UN official appointed Sinhaputhra Finance Chairman

A top level former UN official Joseph Rienzie Jayalath Nanayakkara has been appointed Chairman of Sinhaputhra Finance Plc with effect from 1 April 2014.
He replaces N.N. Ratnayake who resigned as Sinhaputhra Finance Plc Chairman from 17 January 2014. He joined the Board in May 2011.
New Chairman Nanayakkara has over 30 years of hands-on administrative experience as a senior international civil servant with the United Nations and the South Centre, serving in several countries, working in an English, French and Arabic speaking environment.
His last position was as Head of Administration, South Centre, Geneva between January 2007 and April 2010.
Previously he has been the Chief of the Distribution Section, Conference Services Division of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Deputy Chief, Distribution Section, Administrative Officer in the Office of the Director Program Support and Management Services Division of the UNCTAD, in Geneva and Personnel officer at the Personnel Administrative Section of the UN Office in Geneva.
He had worked as a Staff Officer at Bank of Ceylon between 1969 and 1980, prior to which he was a Teacher at Trinity College Kandy and S. Thomas’ Prep School Bandarawela. He is an old student of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts BA from the University of Ceylon, a Diploma in International Personnel Management, Institute of Public Administration, London UK, and followed a course of studies in management accountants in the London School of Accountancy UK and a Diploma from the Bankers Training Institute, Sri Lanka.
Following the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of Sinhaputhra Finance Plc comprises J.R.J. Nanayakkara (Chairman), K.R.B. Wijeyeratne (Managing Director and CEO), S. De Alwis, E.A.D.P. Ekanayake and A.R. Karunaratne. Wijeyeratne holds a 50.6% stake in the company whilst Dinal Wijemanne holds 15.6%.
