Gamini Senarath assumes duties as new Chairman of People’s Bank

The newly-appointed Chairman of People’s Bank Gamini Senarath assumed duties at the Head Office of People’s Bank at an auspicious time yesterday.

As a well reputed officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Senarath is currently the Chief of Staff to the President. An old boy of Richmond College, Galle, who graduated from the University of Kelaniya, he also holds a Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo.

After graduating from the University of Kelaniya, Senarath joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1984 as an Assistant Government Agent. Thereafter he served as the Assistant Controller and Deputy Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. He has also functioned in the capacity of Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic. He was the former Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.

Senarath was appointed Chief of Staff to the President in 2009 after his successful tenure as the Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister and as Additional Secretary to the President. Apart from serving in this capacity, he also holds the posts of Chairman at Litro Gas Lanka Company, Litro Gas Terminals Company, and Sri Lanka Insurance Resorts and Spas.

Having participated in a number of foreign trainings in various fields of administration, leadership and management, Senarath possesses excellent foreign exposure in the related subjects. He also excels as a well-reputed social activist.

On assuming duties as the Chairman of People’s Bank, chanting of pirith together with Hindu, Catholic and Muslim religious rituals were carried out at the Head Office.  The Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar, corporate management, and executive management, together with the staff of People’s Bank, were also present at the occasion.
