The common candidate has made a strong pledge that he will look into all the alleged corrupt deals and bring discipline and dignity back to the public service system. All of them pledge to do good before they get elected but fall by the way side, therefore he must walk the talk if he gets elected. He should also pledge to get rid of the corruption in the EPF and the deals allegedly done in the Central Bank as highlighted by the Opposition on many occasions. He should also get rid of all the politically appointed directors in the banks and give the banks the autonomy to operate independently. The banks in Sri Lanka are not the private property of the Governor to appoint his relatives and friends to private sector Bank Boards as recently highlighted in this paper. On the other hand, if the President wins the elections he must not repeat the mistakes he has made in the past but leave behind a legacy of cleaning up his administration by getting rid of all the corrupt officials.
