Golden Key: A beacon of light to its debacle/deadlock

The Golden Key debacle has held sway for several years. Many are the people who suffered and even tragically died due to this weird, demonic and sordid trail left behind. Could this at least now soften the hearts of Mr. Golden Heart who is seen ‘now and then only’ in a wheelchair and Mrs. Golden Heart who is apparently hiding away in super luxury and whose  assets are seen popping up like lollypops over the dark valley, to the eyes of the ever-saddening and sickened depositors? Many are the gory details of the debacle! Many are the tales that were told over the media giving inspiration at times and desperation at others. Varied are the deposit victims-some are ill-earned black money depositors, some are life’s earnings such as terminal benefit depositors, some with some excess money due to undervaluing an asset on a deed to satisfy a potential buyer, etc. All these were unfortunate enough to deposit the money in Golden Key which was owned by a man supposedly with a Golden Heart as he was made to be known in business circles in a by-gone era. But why-oh why did this Golden Heart drag this on without making it easy for the depositors, by declaring his assets in good time – indeed why not even now – with the supposedly big assets they have around the world? Has he forgotten the brave words he uttered from the balcony of BMICH immediately after the debacle that “he would pay all the depositors to the very last cent”? Why doesn’t Mrs. Golden Heart come out even at this late stage and declare her wealth to the benefit of the ailing depositors? Don’t they know that this is a burden for them in their present lifetime because it is a sin crying to heaven for vengeance not to settle debtors as in the Lord’s Prayer – whatever their present religious persuasion is? How long can one go by erasing the conscience? It surfaces Mr. and Mrs. Golden Heart – worldly cunning and craft will not hide the shame! It is a different matter entirely if the courts proved them bankrupt – but their hidden assets are seen popping up by the day. As it is, it is not a question of non-payment of depositors because the liquidity ratio was insufficient – what with confronting new assets? Could not Mr. Golden heart be kept under house arrest – in the strict sense of the term – until all their international assets are declared? But oh! I forgot that this is the Paradise Isle! Woe unto those with influence who dissuade powers that be, to divert fair strategies of distribution away from ailing depositors, to satisfy easy-moneyed big-time depositors who can jolly well go on with the fat remaining with them!. This may be the norm of the day, but does it sit well with the conscience of those hangers-on around the two Golden Hearts to perpetuate the damnable thing they continue to do? Yes! Damnable are the lawyers who defend these two ‘Golden Hearts’ if whatever they do is to the detriment of the innocent depositors! We have heard of the influential big-time depositors being helped to withdraw their monies skipping normal procedure adversely affecting the sincere depositors. We do hope it is not true. Amidst all this despair and dismay there is a beacon of light we see at the end of the tunnel – and that is the present Chairman of Golden Key Company Priyantha Fernando, who has sworn to steer clear of the dirt and do the needful to all the deserving depositors. It must be stated that during his tenure as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, this gentleman had given leadership to restructure six distressed finance companies of the very same Ceylinco Group. Based on his expertise and experience this ex-Central Banker is sure to guide GKC to a slow but steady repayment program for the depositors as and when more and more assets pop up and if left to work on his own steam! May his hands be strengthened by all depositors including the unions that have been formed over the years! It is certain that he would not be intimidated by pouncing black hands! A great tribute indeed to the ultimate power that has installed this retired Deputy Governor of the Central Bank to this esteemed post – let this same power not allow any person to interfere with the lofty ideals of the Chairman of GKC, who is sure to rise to greater heights and carry the good work to the end and who I presume carries out this work at a sacrifice to himself. I also appeal to the same ultimate power to ensure that the work of this gentleman be not allowed to be sullied by the ills and ilk of this Paradise Isle. I do hope the depositors will proceed with further patience as long as this light is evident at the end of the long tunnel! A Depositor
