In its continuing endeavour to leverage education and empowerment initiatives, HNB, one of Sri Lanka’s leading private banks, continued to extend its patronage to the country’s national accounting body this year too.

HNB Managing Director/CEO R. Theagarajah noted that HNB as a leading commercial bank had identified participating in education related initiatives as a key aspect of its corporate social reasonability programme and that HNB takes pride in being a Lead Sponsor of ICASL, which has been instrumental in shaping the national education and raising the standards in the accounting profession in the country.

“Today, HNB has risen to the zenith in banking. We have been acknowledged globally by The Banker as the Bank of the Year twice over and won numerous local and global awards, and HNB as an employer has benefited by the pool of accounting professionals produced by ICASL and the professional standards maintained by the institute. Therefore, partnering with ICASL was an opportunity to HNB to develop both the profession and national education,” he said.

Theagarajah also added that in spite of the impressive persona HNB has notched up for itself over 120 years, the bank’s ethos is simple. “We remain firm in our belief that we must continue to be an integral facet in the lives of the Sri Lankan people,” he said.

ICASL President Sujeewa Mudalige, welcoming HNB onboard once again, emphasised that the bank’s continuous patronage over the years is an endorsement of the institute’s quest to serving the society by promoting and developing accounting expertise towards resource management at the highest level of integrity and competence.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) is a globally recognised accountancy body which has over 35,000 registered students and its qualification has gained wide acceptance all over the world, during its existence which has spanned over a period of 50 two years.
