The Institute of Internal Auditors Sri Lanka (IIASL), at its Fourth National Conference scheduled for 15 November at Kings Court Cinnamon Lakeside will deliberate on some of the “big questions” currently facing internal auditors today. This is in line with this year’s theme: “Strategies for Internal Audit Excellence.”

IIASL President Dharshana De Silva stated that over the years the scope and delivery of the Internal Auditor has evolved and it is time that we in Sri Lanka discuss the changes at length during this year’s National Conference.

Are internal auditors recognised as key agents of change by management? Do they give overall assurance on governance, risk management and control? Do they display leadership in their working environments? Are they committed to continuous improvement in professional practices? And in terms of governance, what constitutes the independence, power and authority of internal audit activities across the audit profession, audit committees and in particular board rooms?

“The conference will feature presentations by eminent foreign and Sri Lankan speakers in the field of internal auditing, risk management and corporate governance. The speakers, panellists and delegates will be reflecting on the maturity of the internal audit function; a theme chosen to mirror the growth and development of our own service” commented Fourth National Conference Committee Chairman, Mukhlis Ismail.

Insurance Ombudsman, Attorney-at-Law and Senior Consultant to the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM) Dr. Wickrema Weerasoria will grace the occasion as Chief Guest. The Keynote Speaker will be Ronnie Peiris, Group Finance Director of John Keells Holdings PLC.  Securities Commission Malaysia Head of Risk Management Attila Emam will make a presentation on “Embedding Good Risk Governance that Translate to Demonstratable Results.”

Aneja Associates Chief Executive Narendra Aneja, will give an insight on “Integrating Fraud Analytics into Your Work Plan” and Partner and Head of Advisory Services KPMG Sri Lanka and Head of IFRS KPMG MESA Reyaz Mihular will look at the practical aspects of Internal Auditing in an IFRS World.

Country Managing Partner Ernst & Young Asite Talwatte will lead the panel discussion on “Meeting our stakeholders expectations – Critical role played by Non- Executive Directors and the importance of an effective Board” along with Attorney-at-Law Maithri Wickremasinghe, and Managing Director, Lanka Walltiles PLC Mahendra Jayasekera as other members of the panel.

The conference seeks to explore these issues and gives the delegates an opportunity of learning and networking amongst the Internal Audit fraternity.

Through our affiliation our members are able to share in the collective wisdom of more than 170,000 members in over 165 countries and territories said Mr. De Silva.
