In keeping with its mandate of developing the Sri Lankan capital market and in line with one of its strategic goals to facilitate the widening and broadening of the investor base, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) has commenced a series of local Road Shows in selected towns to educate the general public on investing in the Capital Market.
Investors should have the basic knowledge in making their investment decisions and the SEC is committed to create awareness on the capital market and thereby ensure that the benefits of investing in the capital market trickle down to the masses.
In association with the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE ) branches, the SEC was able to conduct three road shows successfully in Galle, Kandy and Kurunegala which drew large crowds.
Over 4,000 investors attended these Road Shows. Encouraged by the success of the previous programmes, the SEC in association with the Negombo Branch of the CSE is conducting a road show “Investor Day- Negombo” on Saturday, 3 September 2011 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Town Hall, Negombo. Entrance for the Investor Day is free of cost.
The CSE, over 15 Stock broking and Unit Trust Management companies will be participating at the Investor Day and will assist potential investors to open accounts to transact in shares as well as provide guidance on investing in the capital market.
The Investor Day will also feature eminent professionals from the securities market, who will address the gathering on various topics ranging from investing in the stock market, unit trusts and the debt market. The lectures will give investors basic information required to participate confidently in the capital market.
