  • Celebrates two decades of excellence in protection in Life insurance
Forging ahead with their vision to be the premier Sri Lankan Life insurer, Janashakthi Insurance has announced a comprehensive range of new solutions, offering a unique set of benefits that distinguishes itself from the gamut of Life insurance products currently available. This year marks a significant milestone for Janashakthi Insurance. A pioneer in motor, non-motor and life insurance’s product innovation, Janashakthi Insurance celebrates 20 years of excellence in insurance protection on September 2014. Founded in 1994, the company is recognised today as a progressive and forward looking insurer, with an island-wide presence and extensive branch network, offering innovative solutions to meet the wide ranging needs of its growing customer base. The new ‘Janashakthi Family Plus’ provides Life protection which is inflation-proof coupled with the highest-ever guaranteed bonus in the industry. Cover will be increased by 10% every year, with no additional premium charged. The Life Cover includes total permanent disability cover for any accident or sickness and other covers such as critical illness of up to Rs. 5 million, Hospital Cash benefits and guaranteed income for the family up to Rs. 100,000 a month. To mark their 20th anniversary, Janashakthi is extending coverage limits of its life policies, allowing for higher value coverage for their valued customers. As part of this, new riders have been introduced which can be added on to an existing Life policy as an added benefit for loyal and existing customers. In addition to this, the newly launched International Premier Medical Insurance Plan covers the policyholders for hospitalisation in several countries including; Singapore, Dubai, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, India and Sri Lanka. The policy holder can receive medical treatment in these countries for up to Rs. 32 million each year. “Janashakthi embodies a rich array of insurance solutions, fortified by strong customer relationships. Our journey over the last 20 years demonstrates the company’s strength and stability and we look forward to continuing to meet the needs of our current and future customers,” says Hashra Weerawardena, General Manager – Life (Sales & Operations) of Janashakthi Insurance. Janashakthi has developed many groundbreaking products in the past for their Life segment. The Janashakthi’s Life Unlimited policy allows for lifelong medical cover as no other insurance company provides lifelong medical coverage even after the policy has matured.  Commenting further on Janashakthi’s pioneering efforts Jude Silva, Brand Manager – Life notes, “Janashakthi was the first to introduce a child critical illness policy in the local market. The company was the first to introduce worldwide hospitalisation cover, considered a bold initiative at that time. In addition, Janashakthi was the only insurer to acquire a government owned insurance company. We were the only company bold enough to provide coverage to HIV/AIDS patients, while the rest of the country was shying away from doing so. This decision was made as the company felt a sense of social responsibility to support these vulnerable people. Janashakthi also provided coverage during the war for the country’s heroic Armed forces. We were the only company bold enough to do something and stick to it.” Janashakthi’s customer driven work ethic was also evident when the devastating Tsunami stuck Sri Lanka a decade ago, “During the tsunami, we as a local insurer paid out Rs. 5 billion in claims, one of the highest payouts among the local insurers,” he noted. Commenting on Janashakthi’s outlook for the future, Weerawardena said, “I am very positive. The company is concentrating on the Life segment because of the low penetration in the Sri Lankan marketplace. The Life segment bears great potential for growth and I look forward to opening up this new market for Janashakthi.” Underscoring their promise of providing policies that differentiate and the desire to help existing and potential new clients, Weerawardena noted “We are taking a new people-centric strategy, which will definitely take Janashakthi to the next level.”
