Janashakthi recently paid out a claim worth approximately $ 0.9 million to a luxury resort in the Maldives when one of its buildings was gutted by fire. Centara Hotels and Resorts is a prominent Thai-based chain which also has hotels based in Bali, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Mauritius. A fire beginning in the General Manager’s quarters saw the entire administrative building burnt to the ground, with extensive damages amounting to nearly $ 1 million. Centara Hotels was covered under Janashakthi’s Fire All Risk policy, and a team promptly visited the site. “A team from Janashakthi Insurance came here with a Loss Adjustor within a few days in order to have a discussion with the Centara staff. We are happy with Janashakthi’s prompt service, in fact so much so that we are considering getting more comprehensive coverage for our other businesses as well,” said Corporate Controller of Administration Kris Tossanoot from Thailand. “In the world of business, anything can happen. Our non life products are comprehensive and can provide for every eventuality – from fire to theft. In this case Centara placed their faith in us, and it gave us pride to be there in their time of need,” said General Manager – General Insurance Shani Ranasinghe. She visited the insured’s head office in Thailand recently with the Loss Adjustor in order to finalise the claim and came to an amicable settlement. Due to the confidence in Janashakthi, Centara have also since started work with the organisation on other resorts they have interest in and been given advice and immediate insurance solutions whenever required. Janashakthi’s basic fire policy provides protection against financial loss arising due to destruction to property from fire and lightning. However, it can also be extended to include several other perils, including riot and strikes, terrorism, malicious damage, explosion, sprinkler leakage, electrical damage, and storms, floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters as well as accidental damages.
