Janashakthi Insurance, one of Sri Lanka’s largest listed insurers, continues its winning streak to emerge the triumphant winner of two prestigious awards for corporate social responsibility and exceptional branding and marketing at the recently concluded CMO (Chief Marketing Officer Council) Asia Awards held in Singapore.
The insurer gained recognition at the international event by securing the Best CSR Practice Award 2012 – Asia’s highest recognition of corporate organisations that have a significant impact on the lives of people around them. Janashakthi Insurance was also honoured with the Award for Brand Excellence in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) over leading global brands for the second consecutive year. Janashakthi was the only Sri Lankan insurance company to secure top honours at the CMO Asia Awards 2011 and 2012.
The CMO Council is dedicated to high-level knowledge exchange and thought leadership among senior corporate marketing leaders and brand decision-makers across a wide range of global industries.
The CMO Council’s 6,000 members control over USD 300 billion in aggregated annual marketing expenditures and run complex, distributed marketing and sales operations worldwide.
This year’s awards were hosted at a ceremony in Singapore and saw the participation of over 25 countries and the nomination of several top brands and corporates in Asia including Amazon China, Walt Disney Studios India, Panasonic India Pvt. Ltd., NDB Bank, DHL Express India, Axis Bank, and more.
The Janashakthi brand is one of the strongest brand icons in the Sri Lankan marketplace. The ubiquitous lamp that aspires to light the lamp of insurance in every home has systematically built around the core values of simplicity, fairness, authenticity, inclusivity and innovation.

Janashakthi CSR is built on the bedrock of a vision that incorporates the brand metaphor of light into its aims: ‘We will be a light to others by setting an example, leading the way and following the tenets of ethics, integrity, transparency and accountability in everything we do’.
Janashakthi’s most notable CSR project has been its sponsorship of rural athletes. Hand-picking promising athletes from rural areas between the ages 15-16, the company assists them by providing monthly sponsorship to support their nutrition whilst providing guidance by highly experienced senior athletic coaches.
In addition, the athletes are given constant mentoring, motivation and personal capacity development guidance with athletics as well as studies – all a part of the goal to build rounded personalities that dream big, pursue excellence and develop their athletic capabilities to represent Sri Lanka at the highest levels of athletic competition.
