Janashakthi’s sales force shines at spectacular annual awards ceremony

Celebrating their 20th anniversary of market leadership, Janashakthi Insurance recently honoured its top-achieving employees at a glitzy annual awards ceremony, held on 17 March at the BMICH. In keeping with the theme of the event ‘Shine like a star,’ the spotlight was turned on Janashakthi’s sales-force, several of whom won weekend getaway trips to Dubai, China, Hong Kong and Bangkok, as well as substantial cash prizes and trophies, as a reward for their hard work. Speaking at the ceremony Janashakthi Managing Director Prakash Schaffter said: “This is a special day in our calendar, maybe even more so as we are celebrating our 20th year. Our sales force’s performance in 2013 was exceptional, and that’s why we are here today.” Schaffter added that more than 2,750 families and over 1,250 agents were dependent on Janashakthi for their livelihood. “Janashakthi is truly a national company. It is not only recognised but respected the length and breadth of the country, thanks to your efforts. Keep working hard, and help us on our march forward.” The Chief Guest at the awards was Janashakthi Chairman W.T. Ellawala, while the Guest of Honour was Deputy Chairman C.T.A. Schaffter.  “Every year, this event gets more spectacular than the last. Over the past 20 years, we have grown, and we owe almost everything to the vision and commitment of founder C.T.A. Schaffter. It is a matter of great comfort to have him around. All of you richly deserve what you have achieved,” Ellawala said. The mood at the event was upbeat with plenty of song and dance performances. The highlight of the event was the Chairman’s Award, which went to Miyuru Rajapaksha for his exemplary performance. The award was presented in style with a remote-controlled mini helicopter delivering the long-awaited result. Miyuru also received a Hall of Fame (Silver) ‘Star Performance’ award in the General category. The Best Regional Sales Manager – Life was won by T.I. Jamaldeen, from Head Office-Life, while the Best Regional Sales Manager – General award went to P.C. Wishwaka, Colombo Central. Gamini Kumarasinghe of Badulla walked away with the Life Manpower Championship Award – RSM, Life Category. The award for the Best Portfolio Manager – General category went to W.A.D. Kumara of Colombo North.  N.C.S. de Silva of Kalutara was awarded the Best Portfolio Manager – Life. The CTA Schaffter Challenge trophy for LifeSaver, awarded to the person who achieved the highest new business premium through LifeSaver, went to H.M.C.W. Herath of Kalubowila. In a company first, G.S. Ruwan Kumara of Hatton qualified to attend the Million Dollar Round Table for the 10th time consecutively, earning him lifetime membership and a standing ovation from his proud colleagues while he was also selected as the conquer the world Hong Kong qualifier. D.J. Piyadasa from Colombo Central was named the Best Assistant Business Promotion Manager, while the Best Senior/Business Promotion Executive was found to be K.H.T. Ariyawansha of Colombo Metro. W.R.C.P.K. Ranawaka won an award for Best Business Promotion Officer. K.G.R.P. Ilangarathne of Kandy scooped up an award for the Best Business Promotion Sales Supervisor, while the Best Life Team hailed from Kadawatha, with J.S. Adihetti picking up the award. Adihetti also won the Best Business Promotion Manager. The Best Business Promotion Assistant was B.M.S. Kumara in Dambulla, while D.K.P. Balasooriya from Kalutara walked away the Best Business Promotion Officer. A.H.S. Jayalal from Kalubowila won the Best Senior Business Promotion Executive award, while E.W.C. Dananjaya from Colombo was found to be the Best Business Promotion Assistant. The Best Life Salesperson award went to B.W.A. Halangoda of Thambuttegama, who won a round trip to China, while the Best Single Unit Leader-Personal Sales went to M.A.S.T. Prasanna, who won a tour to Dubai he was also selected as the conquer the world Hong Kong qualifier. Janashakthi Director Ramesh Schaffter delivered the closing address. “Today we have shone. We have seen our stars come up the ladder the hard way. That is the story of Janashakthi. 18 years ago, we had our first awards for excellence. We have progressed now, and not in small steps. Over the years, we have strengthened the family culture at Janashakthi Insurance, through implementing action groups, directly putting the staff in touch with those at board level. We do strive for perfection and excellence in everything we accomplish,” Ramesh Schaffter said.
