Janashakthi Insurance recently honoured top achievers at their 2015 Annual Awards for Excellence, which was held on 26 May.

The theme of the night was ‘Vibrant transitions’ acknowledging the division of the company’s Life and General operations. The venue was transformed into a vibrant setting, and colourful song and dance acts kept the employees engaged and entertained throughout the evening. 

The glittering Annual Awards showcased the cream of Janashakthi’s sales force, rewarding top performers who achieved their targets while providing excellent service to their customers throughout the year. 

“2015 has been a momentous year of change. Though we operate as two organisations, we belong to one family, and will continue forward on this journey, growing from strength to strength,” said Janashakthi Managing Director Prakash Schaffter speaking at the event. 

Chief Guest at the event was Janashakthi Chairman W.T. Ellawala, while the guest of honour was Janashakthi founder C.T.A. Schaffter. 

“We truly value our employees’ contribution to our growth and we demonstrate our appreciation through this spectacular event. My warmest congratulations go out to all the winners. I urge you to be confident in what you have achieved, and hope you are motivated to push forward even further,” Chairman Ellawala said. 

The highlight of the night was the coveted Chairman’s Awards which went to two top performers, in recognition of the Life and General split. The winner of the General Chairman’s Award was Saman Indrasiri from Colombo Integrated, who joined as an underwriter but was able to achieve a sales award in the Business Promotions Executive category in just four months. Saman was also named a Star Performer, Hall of Flame, Bronze category this year. 

The Life Chairman’s Award went to Sulochana Fernando from Negombo, who also won in the Best Team Management category and was named the Most Valuable Team Manager in recognition of his excellence in propelling his team to success. 

Hundreds of employees received recognition of their hard work and dynamism at the Awards for Excellence. 

In the General segment, K.W.S.D. Roshan was named the Best Regional Sales Manager while Miyuru Rajapakse of Colombo Integrated-General was inducted into the Star Performance Hall of Fame (Silver category) for his outstanding performance over the year 2014/2015. Dhanushka Kumara won in the Best Sales Manager/Assistant Portfolio Manager Diamond category. 

Samantha Udesh was named a Diamond category winner for the Best Assistant Business Promotion Manager’s award, while Dammika Prasenajith won in the Gold category and J.M. Dinesh Jayasundera won the Silver category. 

There were also winners for Best Senior Business Promotion Executive, with Chandana Ranawaka from Colombo Metro named a Diamond category winner and E.N. Sasanka Fernando and Dilusha Hapuarachchi winning Gold and Silver awards. Manoj Subasinghe won the Diamond award Category for Best Business Promotion Officer while Nuwan Martines and R. Ajanth won in the Gold and Silver categories. 

Awards were also given out for the Best Business Promotions Assistant with Shanaka Sayuranga and U.T. Nayanajith de Silva winning in the Diamond and Gold categories. K.H. Ariyawansha was named the Best Business Promotion Sales Supervisor (Diamond) while L.A. Shashi and Tharaka Sandamali Gunawardena won Gold and Silver Awards. 

R.A.N.K. Ranaweera was rewarded as the Best Assessor who brought in the largest business volume to Janashakthi’s Auto Centre, while Sampath Wijesinghe was named the Best Assessor. 

In the Life segment, Rehen Gunawardena – Western Zone was named the Best Zonal Sales Manager while Anurasiri Karunarathne – Kurunegala was named best Regional Sales Manager. Aruna Fernando won the Most Valuable Unit Manager and the Best Unit Manager category. Suthes Theepa from Jaffna was awarded in both the Most Valuable and the Best Business Manager award categories. Sujani Chathurika Kulasekara won in the Best Agency category and was also named the Most Valuable Life Sales Agent.   

“Each of you can transition from contestant to winner, if you have the passion and drive to do so,” said Janashakthi Director Ramesh Schaffter who delivered a lively and entertaining closing address. 

Over two decades, Janashakthi has achieved many milestones thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of its employees. This has been recognised with the company investing over Rs. 40 million in training and development initiatives, including overseas training programmes. Janashakthi has responded positively to the regulatory reforms, recording a 13.4% growth in the first quarter of 2015, on the wings of winning two Gold Awards at the National Business Excellence Awards in 2014. The company remains an innovator, introducing unique products such as Easy Claim, a unique proposition that allows the customers to withdraw claim payments from an ATM without any delay.
