Kelum succeeds Vidya as Factory Director of Singer associate firms

Kelum Kospelawatta has been appointed Factory Director of the associate companies, namely, Regnis (Lanka) PLC, Singer Industries (Ceylon) PLC, and Regnis Appliances Ltd., on 1 October 2014. He succeeds Vidya Vidyaratne who retired from the organisation. Kelum holds a B.Sc Engineering Honours Degree from the University of Moratuwa and a Master of Business Administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenepura. He joined Regnis (Lanka) PLC as a Factory Engineer in March 1994. He was promoted to the senior management grade as Manager Production & Engineering in 2003. Kelum was re-designated as the Operations Manager in 2006, and as part of succession plans, was appointed as Factory Manager of Regnis (Lanka) PLC in September 2011. In 2000, he was recognised as the Best Executive of the Singer Group. Vidyaratne joined Singer Industries (Ceylon) PLC in 1982 and since then, several high-profile promotions have taken him to the position of Group Manufacturing Director, a position he has held since 1992. Vidyaratne was also a Board Member of Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC. Under Vidyaratne’s tenure, the manufacturing capabilities of the Singer Group grew exponentially. He was instrumental in establishing manufacturing plants for refrigerators, washing machines, water pumps, agro products, and the award-winning Singer GEO and SISIL ECO refrigerator series by Singer. He was also instrumental in setting up Singer’s assembly of televisions. Vidyaratne will continue to act on the Board of Directors of Regnis (Lanka) PLC and Singer Industries (Ceylon) PLC as a Non-Executive Director.
