In recent years the audit committee has become one of the main pillars of the corporate governance system in the business world. The role of the audit committee becomes ever more important in preserving shareholder value and stakeholder confidence in a global environment full of risk and uncertainty. The effective audit committee builds the right relationships and justifies its actions with results.
Forum leader Peter Nash is the National Chairman of KPMG Australia and is a member of KPMG’s International Board and KPMG’s Global Executive team. He previously served as the Regional Head of Audit for KPMG’s Asia Pacific region.
In his 27 years with KPMG, Peter Nash has specialised in serving some of Australia’s largest corporates in the financial services, energy and natural resource sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Melbourne, is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia.
Peter Nash is a Director of Business Working with Education Foundation and Reconciliation Australia. He is also a member of the Audit Committee for the Koorie Heritage Trust and is the honorary auditor of Very Special Kids.
Audit committees must be careful not be burdened with disclosure overload and as complexity sets in the strategic agenda of the audit committee is often hidden in plain sight.
