LankaClear bags two consecutive awards for National Business Excellence

Sri Lanka’s national payment infrastructure provider, LankaClear Ltd. was yet again recognised for its business excellence in the infrastructure and utilities sector where the payment network operator received an award for the second consecutive year at the prestigious National Business Excellence Awards ceremony held in Colombo. The National Business Excellence Awards are hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka to recognise enterprises that have demonstrated business excellence whilst contributing positively to economic growth and development. This is the second consecutive year that LankaClear emerged a winner at the ceremony, taking home the Gold award under the same sector in 2013. LankaClear is one of the leading and progressive payment infrastructure solutions providers in the Asian Region, and recently launched the Common Card & Payment Switch (CCAPS) under the brand name LankaPay. The LankaPay network is designed to become the backbone for all future electronic transactions in the country, which will facilitate seamless connectivity coupled with online real time payments. Commenting on the award, LankaClear Chairperson PriyanthaLiyanage stated: “We are proud to be recognised for our commitment and contribution to the nation. This year we have emerged victorious amidst stiff competition within our category and the credit goes to our employees who have been the driving force in all our achievements, shaping a future of seamless payments for greater financial inclusion.” The first phase of the LankaPay network went live with the launch of the Common ATM Switch (CAS) allowing customers of one bank to transact using an ATM of another member bank at convenience and at a nominal fee of Rs. 30 per cash withdrawal. The LankaPay common ATM network currently comprises of over 2,500 ATMs belonging to Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, HNB, NDB, People’s Bank, Seylan Bank, Union Bank, NTB and Standard Chartered. With all Sri Lankan banks and financial service providers expected to join in the near future, the network will further consolidate and expand its reach as the largest common ATM network in the country. The LankaPay payment network is a national development initiative implemented under the purview and guidance of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which will greatly support the proposed consolidation of the banking and financial services industry, allowing greater reach, affordability, service offering and convenience to customers via a common payment platform. The facility also offers significant savings in foreign exchange to the country by virtue of every LankaPaytransaction being channelled through a domestic payment network.
