Lankaputhra Development Bank introduces Jathika Viyavasayaka Athwela

To strengthen and support entrepreneurs in the country, Lankaputhra Development Bank introduced a training program titled ‘Jathika Viyavasayaka Athwela’. Under this program existing businesses as well as new businesses will be supported and entrepreneurs trained in developing their skills and knowledge. The training program was initiated last year by Lankaputhra Development Bank with the support of the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) and to continue the program this year too, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed recently in Colombo. The bank was set up under the Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future and its main objective is supporting development activities of the country. The bank reaches its clientele with its network of eight branches. The bank has many concessional loan schemes for small and medium entrepreneurs including leasing and pawning services and also offers attractive interest rates for it savings products. In addition, the bank also introduced a special account for senior citizens with attractive interest rates. Small and medium entrepreneurs encounter many difficulties when doing business and this training program was launched as a long term solution by the Lankaputhra Development Bank. The program will teach how to identify a business, prepare a business plan as well as legal issues when establishing a business. In addition, finding a market, keeping accounts as well as numerous aspects which have to be considered when establishing and conducting a business and problem solving will be taught. This year it has been planned to offer the training program to cover all branches of the bank. The bank will also evaluate the success of the programs last year. This year technical programs too have been included. As one of the main aims of the budget is supporting women entrepreneurs special programs have been planned to strengthen women entrepreneurs. The National Enterprise Development Authority which is established under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce conducts many business programs and among its main aims are providing special development activities at provincial level.
