As part of its lobbying efforts for a sustainable microfinance regulatory framework in Sri Lanka, the Lanka Microfinance Practitioners’ Association (LMFPA) recently held discussions with Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister for International Monetary Co-operation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Minister for National Languages and Social Integration and Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of Central Bank.
All the dignitaries were presented with a copy of ‘Microfinance Review Sri Lanka – Performance & Analysis Report 2012’; the annual publication of LMFPA which highlights the financial and social performance of Microfinance practitioners of Sri Lanka.
The key highlight of the discussions was indubitably the implementation of the microfinance regulation. During the discussions, the Governor of Central Bank stated that the proposed regulation is undergoing translations by the Legal Draftsman and the Ministers extended their fullest cooperation to lobby in support of the implementation of the proposed Act in Parliament during the course of this year.
