Manjula de Silva assumes duties as National Insurance Trust Fund Chairman

Manjula de Silva has been appointed as the Chairman of National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) with effect from 6 April by the Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs. De Silva had his primary and secondary education at Royal College. Thereafter he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Hons) degree from University of Colombo and Master of Business Administration from London Business School, UK. He is also a FCMA (UK) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). Prior to this appointment, he was the Managing Director of HNB Assurance PLC and HNB General Insurance Ltd. Previously, he has held the post of Director General of Public Enterprises Reforms Commission (PERC) of Sri Lanka. He has been a Committee Member and Chairman – Steering Committee on Insurance of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. He is also currently serving as the Deputy Chairman of CIMA Sri Lanka Division. He is a Past President of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) and the Unit Trust Association of Sri Lanka (UTASL). He will be leading the National Insurance Trust Fund – the sole national reinsurer, to achieve its objectives such as expanding the reinsurance business of NITF, managing the Strike, Riot, Civil Commotion and Terrorism (SRCC&T) Fund effectively and efficiently and expanding NITF’s welfare oriented insurance schemes stated in the its Act to reach its vision of being a “Safety net and a provider of protection for all needy sectors”. With the leadership of de Silva, NITF will expand and it will harness the insurance sector in Sri Lanka towards providing a better level of protection to the Sri Lankan public. The appointment of Manjula de Silva as Chairman of NITF will be a blessing to NITF and to the insurance sector in Sri Lanka, since he is a versatile, experienced professional with multidisciplinary qualifications.
