Matugama teacher is fourth millionaire in Seylan Bank’s ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ draw

E.A. Dayawathie (56), a year teacher from Matugama recently won the top prize of Rs. 1 million in Seylan Bank’s (February) ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ draw, becoming the fourth millionaire to date.



“I never expected to win the top prize. And yes of course I am very happy,” she says. With 24 years teaching experience, Dayawathie is the current teacher of Political Science at the Panthiya Maha Vidyalaya in Matugama and proudly says that even her salary cheque goes direct to her Seylan Bank account.

A customer for the past dozen years at the Seylan Bank’s Matugama Branch where she has a savings account and fixed deposit, she says, “My prize money will go back to the Bank as a FD. I have great trust in Seylan Bank and I’m thankful to the Matugama Branch for its excellent customer service and efficiency.”

Since its grand launch in October last year, ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ has already awarded a total of 10,480 (2620 x 4 months) winners from all parts of Sri Lanka. These lucky customers have won from an exciting array of prizes such as monthly Rs. 1 million, motor bikes, LCD TVs, refrigerators, home  entertainment systems, sofa sets, lap tops, fully  automatic washing machines, four-burner gas  cookers and gold sovereigns each month.

The recent batch of winners received their awards from Seylan Bank’s Executive Director R. Nadarajah and General Manager/CEO Kapila Ariyaratne at Seylan Bank’s Head Office in Kollupitiya.

They were Y.V.D.J Dharmadasa (Kekirawa Branch),  Renuka Liyanaratne (Millenium Branch), W.A  Premawathi (Borella Branch), A.C Wijetunge  (Colombo South Branch), ULM Saripudeen  (Ampara Branch), A.S Karunanayake (Card  Centre), M.D.U Ratnayake (Anuradhapura –  Nochiyagama Branch), T Dickson (Ambalangoda  Branch) and HP Seneviratne (Kegalle Branch).

‘Seylan Thagi Pita Thagi’ redefined the paradigms of modern banking and goes on record as one of the most unique prize schemes offered by any bank.
