MBSL Savings Bank appoints Weerasekara to Director Board

MBSL Savings Bank has announced the appointment of H.M.A.B. Weerasekara to its Board of Directors.

Weerasekara brings with him a vast and diverse knowledge and experience that spans a banking career of over 35 years. He has been the Additional General Manager of Bank of Ceylon at the time of his retirement and has a solid exposure in the banking arena both local and international.

He also graces the Bank with an extensive experience in the areas of domestic, offshore, corporate, trade finance, investment, treasury operations, international and retail banking. Prior to his present position, he has served as the Assistant General Manager, Offshore Banking Division and Deputy Manager of the BOC branch in London and was instrumental in converting the London branch to a subsidiary.

Experienced in negotiating and arranging short to medium term syndicated loans for BOC, he was also instrumental in initiating the recently concluded international bond issue. He was responsible for initiating the enhancement of inward remittance by 250% from 120 countries to BOC within a period of five years beginning with Korea, Japan, Israel, Maldives, USA, Canada and the Middle East. His efforts also improved relationships with Correspondent Banks and Exchange Houses worldwide. He also served six years as the Chairman of the Investment Committee of BOC, Chairman of the Audit Committee and Risk Management committee of MCSL, where he served as a Director. Conversant in international banking compliance, money laundering and cash management, he has participated in seminars and workshops in Malaysia, USA, UK, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

His education background includes B.A. (Econ special) University of Ceylon, Colombo 1972, Bachelor of philosophy (industrial management) University of Ceylon Colombo 1974 and Diploma in Banking –Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka.
