The night of 23 April saw the unveiling of the first Nations Trust Banks Magnus Awards, held to honour and recognise the exceptional teams and individuals who were judged the most outstanding performers for 2012.
The Magnus Awards was held at Waters Edge and was staged under the Grammy Awards Night Theme, with equal glamour and pageantry and a red carpet welcome for all invitees.
Leading personalities in the Nations Trust Banking fraternity graced the occasion with the top management of the bank taking the stage to announce the finalists and award winners. The stage, set ablaze with the digital presentations of nominees and their stories and featured performances in between the award presentation, made Nations Trust’s Magnus Awards Night a huge success.
Having embraced a strong performance based culture right from its inception, Nations Trust Bank is keen to reward and applaud its staff members who are passionate and take pride in excelling in their respective fields.
The Magnus Awards are given for a number of categories which reflect the pillars on which the bank’s strategy and success is built. The most prestigious individual award of the evening was the Employee of the Year award, given under the two categories – Management and Non-Management. This award was judged based on a rigorous selection process conducted by a panel consisting of the top management of the bank who evaluated nominations from a number of different divisions of the bank.
The 2012 Employee of the Year – Management Category was awarded to Randil Boteju, Senior Manager Card Sales, while Akalanka Ranthunga from Information Technology bagged the 2012 Employee of the Year – Non Management category amidst loud cheers and applauds.
Within the individual awards, the Best Service Person of the Year was won by Buddhika Alagiyawanna from Commercial Banking while the Best Sales Person of the year was taken by T.L. Priyankara of the Liability Sales Unit.
Innovation plays a key role in the Bank’s culture and the evening saw Gayan Chathuranga from American Express Cards Division walk away with the award for the Most Innovative Individual of the Year for the implementation and success of his initiative to move to ‘digital recruitments’.
A number of teams were also awarded with the various performance based criteria. The Most Aggressive Profit Making Unit was clinched by American Express Cards while Leasing won the most number awards for the evening, taking home the awards for the Best Revenue Unit , the Most Productive Unit and the Best Campaign of the Year for the launch of ‘Nations Green Lease’. The Internal Audit Department was adjudged the Best Cost Management Unit of the Year.
Seamless teamwork and strong partnerships between the front line business units and the processing and support services are key success factors of the bank. Through the process of voting by all business units in the bank, the Best Business Partner was awarded to Trade Services Unit.
Speaking at the event, Director and CEO Renuka Fernando stated: “The tremendous success of Nations Trust Bank would not have been even remotely possible without the young men and women who form the Nations Trust Team. This is a unique team because of the passion, hard work and street fighter-can do attitude which is in our DNA. Nations Magnus Awards was all about recognising and celebrating the great people we have.”
The inaugural Magnus Awards certainly lived up to its name and theme and will continue to be one of the main events in the Nations Trust Bank’s calendar. The after-party continued on with great music and staff members from across the country took the chance to interact and enjoy themselves with their colleagues.
