NSB GM/CEO Hennayake Bandara retires

National Savings Bank (NSB) Chief Executive Officer and General Manager H.M. Hennayake Bandara will be retiring from the post with effect from today. He is leaving NSB after a spell of 14 years of which 10 years were in the corporate management and over four years as General Manager/CEO. He first joined the Bank in June 2000 as Deputy General Manager (Finance and Planning) and was promoted as Additional General Manager in July 2008 and thereafter as the General Manager/CEO in May 2010. In a message to the staff Hennayake had said he will be leaving NSB with tremendous respect for the bank having led a great team as the General Manager/ CEO for the past four years. “I am extremely happy to have been a part of this bank which is now recognised locally and internationally as a truly national bank for its strong management and excellent record of successes and achievements,” he said. “I would like to place on record my sincere gratitude to all staff members who worked with dedication and commitment for the betterment of National Savings Bank, especially during challenging times. I really enjoyed the challenge and the fulfilment of guiding the bank with your unstinted support,” Hennayake has told the NSB staff. Hennayake has extensive experience in the banking and financial sector and he is a past President of the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka (APB). He is also a former President of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL). He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the World Savings Banks Institute, a Board Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and Director of NSB Fund Management Co. Ltd. He had been a Director of the Sri Lanka Banks’ Association and the Financial Ombudsman of Sri Lanka (Guarantee) Ltd. In addition, Hennayake had been a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education, Board Member of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board, and a technical advisor and Committee Member of the Professional Accountants in Business of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). He was a member of the Expert Group appointed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka as per the Cabinet decision, to provide expertise to Registered Finance Companies and Specialized Leasing Companies in respect of the implementation of the ‘Stimulus Package for Banking, Finance & Leasing Industry’. He is a recipient of the award for ‘Excellence in Business Management’ awarded by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA). Hennayake holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree from University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and is Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka. He also holds a higher national diploma in accountancy from the Technical College, Sri Lanka.
