Palansuriya Deputy Chairman at Sampath Bank

Non Executive and Non Independent Director Channa Palansuriya has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman at Sampath Bank Plc.

The decision was made at the Sampath Bank Board meeting on 26 May. 

Palansuriya was appointed to the Sampath Bank Board on 28 April to fill up a casual vacancy.

He has 30 years of experience in the apparel sector by heading the Orit Group of Companies and continuous leadership given to other companies in the apparel industry. He has gained wide experience in government administration by being a Board Member of the Board of Investment from 2005 to 2015. 

At present he is the Chairman and Managing Director of Orit Group comprising Orit Apparel Lanka Ltd., Orit Trading Lanka Ltd., Chairman Style-Kraft Sportswear Ltd., Chairman Siyapatha Finance Ltd., and Deputy Chairman National Livestock Development Board. He is also in the Executive Committee of the Joint Apparel Association Forum, Executive Committee of Apparel Exporters Association GFP and Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association.

He has won awards such as Asia Pacific Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award in 2013, Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002. 

He was a Board member of Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel, Chairman of Apparel Exporters Association 200 GFP during 2006-2008, Chairman of GC Lanka Clothing Ltd., till 2013.

With the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of Sampath Bank Plc comprises of Dhammika Perera (Chairman), C. Palansuriya (Deputy Chairman), Aravinda Perera (Managing Director), R. Samaranayake, D. Sooriyaarachchi, D.S. Wijayatilake, K.A.M.K. Ranasinghe, S.K.G. Senanayake, A.H.W. Senanayake, R.P. Pathirana, W.D.P. De Mel and S. Amarasekera.
