Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa declared open the first SME bank branch centre of People’s Bank this week, parallel to the Anuradhapura Deyata Kirula development exhibition 2012.
The move is in line with President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s pledge in the Budget Speech 2012 that State banks will establish special branches for the SME sector.
This SME centre of People’s Bank will provide various facilities for the entrepreneurs of the SME sector. It will extend financial facilities up to Rs. 200 million and will provide other services such as project planning and consultancy.
The Anuradhapura Centre will coordinate SME services of all People’s Bank branches in the District.Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S.M. Chandrasena, Member of Parliament Shehan Semasinghe, People’s Bank Chairman W. Karunajeewa, Attorney-at-Law Pushpa Rajapaksa and officials from People’s Bank also participated in the event.
