People’s Bank Small and Medium Scale Business Centre opens in Kurunegala

People’s Bank recently opened a Small and Medium Scale Business Centre in Kurunegala at No. 03, Wathimi Road, under the patronage of Dr. P. B Jayasundera, Secretary to the Treasury, the Secretary to Ministry of Economic Development and the Secretary of Ministry of Finance & Planning.

With a target to develop Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, this newly constructed Small and Medium Scale Business Centre located at No. 03, Wathimi Road, Kurunegala which was launched under the ‘Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dakma’ budget proposals 2012, will offer loan facilities for Agriculture Based Products, Livestock, Apparel, Fisheries, Tourism, Construction and many more business sectors.

Furthermore, the centre is equipped with a complete library with internet access and auditorium facility. Also, an efficient and friendly consultation service is on offer at the business centre by specially trained staff.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jayasundera stated that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has proposed to strengthen the Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs through 2012 budget proposals with a vision similar to the vision of Ilangarathna, who inaugurated People’s Bank in 1961.

Launching this proposal, People’s Bank has opened its first Small and Medium Scale Business Centre in Anuradhapura recently and today the second branch in Kurunegala. In this same manner, People’s Bank will open a Small and Medium Scale Business Centres in every district.

Therefore, 25 Centres will be launched island wide and this project will definitely be a boost to Sri Lankan entrepreneurs by addressing to their capital investment requirements. Also, this will open up a new avenue for other banks to initiate programs of this magnitude.  

The opening ceremony was graced by the District Secretary of Kurunegala, officers of the Treasury, the Chairman of People’s Bank W. Karunajeewa, Director of People’s Bank Dr. D.J. D. Jayakody, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar together with the staff, corporate and executive management of People’s Bank and a large number of entrepreneurs. Dr. Jayasundera granted loans to several entrepreneurs at the occasion.
