People’s Bank unveils SME centres in Vanni and Batticaloa

People’s Bank declared open its two latest Small and Medium Scale (SME) business centres in Vavuniya and Batticaloa recently. The centres are situated at the Vanni Regional Head Office and the Batticaloa Regional Head Office. Both centres were declared open by People’s Bank Deputy General Manager (Cooperative and Development Banking) T.A. Ariyapala. Launched under the budget proposal of 2012, following the agenda of the ‘Mahinda Chinthana - Idiri Dekma,’ these new centres aim to uplift small and medium scale business sectors by providing them with adequate loan facilities for agriculture based products, livestock, apparel, fisheries, tourism, construction and a host of other business sectors. Subsequent to opening the centres, loans were handed over to entrepreneurs of the area to open their respective businesses. The ceremony was also attended by Chief Manager (Small and Medium Sector) of People’s Bank Wickrama Narayana, Vanni Regional Manager E.M.G. Karunaratne, Batticaloa Regional Manager Abdul Azeez, bank officials and a large number of entrepreneurs.
