As a measure to empower women in rural Sri Lanka and to meet their financial requirements, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised to launch a bank exclusive to women.
The President announced this when he joined the ‘Rata Rakina Nil Paura Surekimu Maw Bima’ Women’s Conference held at the Tissamaharama Electoral Division under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
Addressing the gathering, the President explained about the programs the Government has launched on behalf of women. Pointing out that the country cannot be developed by narrow short-term vision expecting everything from abroad, the President said that the Government’s development programs are launched targeting the year 2050. Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Parliamentarian Malini Fonseka were present at the conference. Many women’s representatives from Tissamaharama, Ambalantota, Suriy-awewa and Lunugamve-hera areas were present on this occasion.
