RAM Ratings Lanka appoints new Malaysian director

RAM Ratings (Lanka) Limited (“RAM Ratings Lanka”) has appointed Dato’ Dr. K Govindan as a new director, effective March 2011.

Dato’ Govindan is the Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer and also a director at RAM Holdings Berhad (“RAM”), the parent company of RAM Ratings Lanka.

Dato’ Govindan holds a PhD (Economics) from the University of Lancaster, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of London, and a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Malaya. He also holds a Certificate in Legal Practice (Honours) and a Diploma in Advanced Management from INSEAD, Paris. He joined the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service in August 1975, and has occupied several senior positions in the Economic Planning Unit (“EPU”) within the Prime Minister’s Department. In addition, Dato’ Govindan has served as the Secretary of the National Economic Action Council, established by the Malaysian Government to overcome the 1997 Asian financial crisis. He has also participated in several technical advisory missions on economic crisis management for Argentina, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Before joining RAM, his last position had been as the Deputy Director General of the EPU, with responsibilities as Head of the Secretariat for the Economic Council (chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia).

Dato’ Govindan’s appointment to our board represents another step in further strengthening RAM Ratings Lanka. His experience and exposure will reinforce RAM Ratings Lanka’s ability to continue serving the market credibly and with integrity.
