Rose Cooray new Senior Director on HNB Board

Former Central Banker Rose Cooray has been appointed as the Senior Director on the Board of HNB following the resignation of Tanky Wickremaratne. Cooray holds a B.A. (Hons,) (University of Ceylon, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka), M.Sc (Strathclyde University, U.K.) and was first appointed to HNB Board in February 2010. She is a retired Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka where she served for over 35 years. She is a Director of Ceylon Guardian Investment Trust PLC and Ceylon Investment PLC. On release from the Central Bank, she had served the Ministry of Finance in the capacity of Director General Fiscal Policy and Economic Affairs Department for nearly six years, represented the Government on the Boards of DFCC Bank, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, Sri Lanka Telecom, Ceylon Electricity Board, De La Rue Currency and Security Print Ltd, Export Development Board, National Housing and Development Authority and represented the Monetary Board on West Coast Power Ltd. She has functioned as the Vice Chairperson of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka for five years and has served on a number of Committees at national level covering a variety of subjects representing the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. She has also represented the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance at various international meetings/seminars. Cooray has been involved extensively in policy making and implementing projects and programs especially in the area of regional development and microfinance. She has wide experience in negotiating loans with multilateral and other donors as well as bilateral trade agreements on behalf of the Government. Her articles/papers have been published in professional journals.
