With great sadness the Grindlays Club of Sri Lanka yesterday announced the demise of Rukshan Dias, an experienced banker and treasury professional. Dias passed away on 19 April in Mauritius at the age of 42.
Dias started his career in the banking industry in 1989 when he joined ANZ Grindlays; pursuing his ambition in finance he moved within the industry to banking dealerships when he moved to ABN Ambro Bank. In November 2001 he joined Standard Chartered Bank as a Senior Dealer and was soon recognised for his exceptional contribution to the bank when he was promoted as the Head of Global Markets. Once again being an outstanding contributor the industry he moved up further in the banking ladder when he was further promoted to Head of Wholesale Banking in Sri Lanka.
In 2011 Rukshan moved within the Standard Chartered Network when he relocated to South Africa as the Head of Global Markets. Expanding his international exposure within the bank, in mid-2013 he took a reposting and moved to Standard Chartered Bank Mauritius as the Head of Global Markets; Mr. Dias was never one to shy from a challenge and took on a more demanding role with each posting.
As an active and avid sports fan, he played cricket for St. Joseph’s College and Standard Chartered Bank and was elected the President of the Standard Chartered Sports Club in Sri Lanka. He also played an active role as a member of Sri Lanka Forex Association, and as a member of the Grindlays Club Sri Lanka.
While we mourn the loss of a very good man, we also celebrate his remarkable life and hope that his family can find comfort in how he has impacted the lives of many in the bank and financial industry. Rukshan leaves not only his loving wife and two children but all his family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
