Sampath Bank revolutionises e-remittance services

Sampath Bank that needs no introduction as the technological trend setter of Sri Lanka’s banking and finance service industry has revolutionised e-remittances through yet another first offering via mobile cash. The new service offering, developed as a result of a key consumer insight which indicated the need for more flexibility in remittances, allows the beneficiary to receive money sent through Sampath e-remittance services from abroad, with no ATM card, and without physical presence at the bank, via the Sampath Bank ATM network spread island-wide 365 days of the year including bank holidays. This is possible only with Sampath Bank customers will not need to have an account with the bank to enjoy this service. One of the most promising uses of this technological breakthrough is the facilitation of both the sender and the beneficiary with utmost speed, safety, accuracy and convenience in transfer and receipt of money using the latest technological applications. Customers can now obtain a free registration at any of bank’s branches spread out at 210 locations across the country. Sampath Bank Deputy General Manager-Marketing and Business Development Tharaka Ranwala, explaining the service mechanism, said: “The process is very simple, the beneficiary should give his correct registered mobile number, name and the National Identity Card number to the sender abroad. Once the money is remitted by the sender, the beneficiary will receive a SMS alert with a pin number. They can withdraw up to Rs. 40,000 per day from any Sampath Bank ATM at any time of the day out of over 250 ATMs located island-wide by simply typing the given pin number along with his/her NIC number and the amount any time, any day of the year.” The first e-remittance transaction via Mobile Cash was ceremonially commissioned by Sampath Bank Managing Director Aravinda Perera at a ceremony held at the Sampath Bank Head Office in Colombo recently. B.K.M.A. Rodrigo from Ja –Ela was the first recipient who received money from Qatar.
