SDB Bank wins Silver award at 52nd Annual Report Awards

SDB Bank won a Silver award for its 2015 annual report in the Financial Institutions Sector at the Annual Report Awards Ceremony organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. The ceremony was held at Waters Edge in Battaramulla on 6 December under the patronage of Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

The main objective of this appraisal of annual reports has become to promote transparency and responsibility among corporates. A new record has been set in the history of this competition with 140 corporates participating this year. Factors such as attention to detail and attractive presentation, effectiveness, transparency were foremost when choosing the winners. 

While the reports submitted for the competition were under the supervision of 200 Chartered Accountants, each report was scrutinised by at least five Chartered Accountants. Size, sources of information, process and complexity were looked into whist judging. Also a special feature at this awards presentation was that attention was given to the organisation’s ethical values, its achievements and future direction.

SDB Bank presenting its Annual Report according to the Global Reporting Index (GRI) for the second time was the special feature here. Also, the adherence to the disclose regulations of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, regulations of Colombo Stock Market and the provisions of the Companies’ Act in presenting the information of this report is an outstanding feature. 

In addition to the above information, with the presentation of a lot of information regarding the 2015 operations of the bank, a summarised and graphical manner made it a complete annual report. Information for investors was presented in an attractive and comprehensive manner. These factors helped in getting the Silver award, stated SDB Bank Deputy General Manager Hemal Lokugeegana.

The aim of SDB Bank is to eliminate poverty through development oriented financial services and assists the people of this nation to create sustainable livelihoods. Through this pioneering vision, it has been able to provide an unprecedented example to the financial sector of our country. 

The founder of SDB Bank, Dr. P.A. Kiriwandeniya, is an individual who succeeded in life through perseverance and courage. As the organisation’s leader is an individual with such experience, the organisation from inception has had a clear vision and aim that is centred on the development of the people. Looking at the success achieved by the bank till today, it can be clearly seen that this aim has borne fruit.
