SEC in alliance with Chartered Institute for Securities Investments, UK

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chartered Institute for Securities Investments (CISI), UK to jointly offer the Diploma in Capital Markets (DCM) programme through the Financial Services Academy (FSA), which is the Education and Training arm of the SEC.  

The DCM is the third stage of the qualification framework introduced by the FSA will provide advanced knowledge on capital market theories and financial products. Obtaining this qualification will pave the way for middle and higher level capital market professionals to enter into the areas such as Banking, Stock Broking, Fund Management, Investment Banking, Corporate Financing, Venture Capital etc.

The CISI is the leading examinations, training and membership body in the UK for those working in the securities and investment industry, with over 40,000 members who benefit from its programme of professional and social events globally.

The Diploma in Capital Markets includes three modules on Corporate Finance, Investment Management and Derivatives. On completion of the above modules, successful candidates will receive a combine certificate known as the SEC-CISI Diploma in Capital Markets. The CISI will also offer all candidates who have undertaken the FSA’s Diploma, the opportunity to attain a full CISI Certificate in Investments (in Corporate Finance, International Investment Management or Financial Derivatives) by recognising the FSA’s Financial Regulation and Ethics module as the regulatory examination.

A jointly branded programme with the CISI will provide the exposure to the local candidates on global best practices and will support capacity building in the financial sector. Further, the SEC-CISI Diploma will provide an opportunity for the local candidates in obtaining a reputed international qualification at a very reasonable price.  

The inaugural batch of the DCM is expected to commence in mid April 2011. The duration of the programme will be approximately six months and classes will be conducted at the SEC.  The sessions will be conducted by an expert panel of lecturers drawn from the academia and Industry. The examinations are expected to be conducted at a web based computer testing environment.
