N.S.J. Arachchi of the Nugegoda Branch recently emerged the winner of the Rupees Million prize in Seylan Bank’s fifth ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ draw. The fifth batch of winners received their awards from Seylan Bank Chairman Mohan Pieris PC, Executive Director R. Nadarajah and General Manager / CEO Kapila Ariyaratne at Seylan Bank’s Head Office in Kollupitiya.

They were N.S.J. Arachchi (Nugegoda Branch),G.S. Perera (Maharagama), P.S. Pathirana (Kuliyapitiya Branch), N.P. Chandrani (Kottawa Branch), W.M.J. Weerasinghe (Welimada Branch), E.M. Dayani (Anuradhapura Branch), Mohideen Jayajothy (Bogawanthalawa Branch), D.P.M. Samarasinghe (Kiribathgoda Branch), M. Visvanathan (Batticaloa Branch) and R.K. Ranaweera (Kalubowila Branch).
Mohideen Jayajothy of Bogawantalawa has been a tea plucker for 40 of her 57 years. Over the years, Information technology seemed to have by passed this resilient mother of three until one day the Manager of Seyan Bank’s Bogawantalawa Branch informed her that she had won a lap top in the fifth ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ draw. “I never expected to win any gifts from my fifteen year old savings account, leave alone a lap top. I am very happy and am gifting it to my elder son Yohanathan (30) who is a teacher in Muloya in the Nuwara Eliya district. I’m sure it will help him with his work”, she says with the love a mother has for her children.
She had a special word of praise for the staff at Seylan Bank’s Bogawantalawa Branch. “This was one of the first banks to open in our area. Normally workers in our area are a bit scared to go to banks. However the staff here come to us, they speak our language and make us feel comfortable. We are thankful to them for this wonderful and human service.”
Seylan Bank’s ‘Thagi Pita Thagi’ had its grand launch in October last year and has since then awarded 13,100 (2620 x 05 months) winners from all parts of Sri Lanka.
