Seylan home gardening competition winners rewarded

Seylan Bank recently concluded a ‘Home gardening competition’ held amongst the villagers of the pilot village Devamulla Horana, rewarding the many participants who actively participated in it.

Seylan Bank with the  assistance of the Agrarian Services Department of Kalutara, conducted two lecture sessions together with an on site practical forum to all the participants educating them on the  latest agricultural methodologies which would help them to maintain a healthy crop, free of pesticides and saying ‘yes’ to natural, healthy and non-harmful  food. The competition commenced in August 2012, with seeds and compost gifted at the expense of Seylan Bank.

The winner selected by the panel was gifted with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, while the first and second runner ups with Rs. 15,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively.

Five of following achievers were also awarded with cash prizes of Rs. 2,500 each and all the participants received consolation prizes.

An essay competition titled ‘Seylan bankuwai ape gamai’ was conducted for the students of Devamulla primary school and the winners were awarded with prizes at the same time.

The award ceremony of the ‘Home gardening competition’ held was also linked with donations made to students of Junior School of Devamulla.

A valuable computer and components donated to be used by the primary students of Grades one to five, as an additional support instrument comparable with their curriculum. Exercise books and stationery required for 2013, was gifted together with a pair of shoes to each students.

Amongst those present at the occasion were General Manager/CEO Kapila Ariyaratne, members of the senior management, managers and staff members.

Also present were the Pasyodunrata Chief Sanganayaka Ven. Nawadagala Chandrasiri Thero, Ven. Sirimagama Piyananda Thero, Principal and staff of Devamulla primary school, the Principals of the neighbouring schools, Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture Kalutara K.V.A.U. Kumarasinghe, Assistant directress and agrarian officers. Seylan Bank moves steadily on a green track, contributing towards the community and environment, meeting economical results in the nation wide and objective driven journey of ‘Sustainable banking for equitable development’.
