The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII) will host a CPD/seminar on ‘Third Party Motor Claims’ on Wednesday 24 October 2012 from 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Insurance Institute auditorium located at 138A 2/1, St. Michaels Road, Colombo 3.
The seminar will feature the insurance ombudsman of Sri Lanka Dr. Wickrema Weerasooria as the keynote speaker and will also include a panel discussion consisting of HNB Assurance PLC General Manager – General and IASL General Insurance Forum Chairman Niranjan Manickam, Union Assurance PLC Senior Manager – Legal and IASL Legal Sub-Committee Chairman Kithsiri Manathunge and Janashakthi Insurance PLC General Manager Dayalanie Abeygunawardena and will be moderated by Orient Insurance Ltd. CEO and SLII Former President Deepthi Lokuarachchi.
The topics covered will include who is a ‘third party’ and third party cover, who can sue and in which court/prescription, compulsory requirements to sue the insurance company, the two main parts of a damages claim: negligence and damages, how to prove negligence/Relevance of M.C. case, calculation and assessment of damages, draft plaints and answers, outline of judicial decisions, pre-trial and post-trial settlements, amongst others.
This seminar is directed towards insurance staff and lawyers involved in third party litigation. The seminar fee, which should be prepaid, has been set at Rs. 400 for SLII members and Rs. 500 for non-members.
