The ‘Harasara’ awards ceremony of Sri Lanka Insurance recognised and felicitated 192 staff members for their loyal service, dedication and commitment to the company for over 25, 35 and 45 years respectively.

The event was graced by Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as Chief Guest, Chairman SLIC Gamini S. Senarath, MD/CEO Mohan de Alwis and the Board of Directors and the senior management of SLIC.

Sri Lanka Insurance awarded three staff members – R.G.H. Lewis, C.C. Jayasuriya and Manel Ranasinghe – for 45 years of loyal service to the company; 37 staff members were awarded for completing 35 years of service and 152 was awarded for completing 25 years of service.

All awardees were presented with a personalised plaque, certificate and gold coins as a tribute towards their dedication, loyalty and commitment to Sri Lanka Insurance. The awards ceremony was held with much glamour and grandeur, featuring entertainment acts which kept the audience spellbound.

Senarath, while paying tribute to the staff in his speech, stated: “The President has now commenced an operation to make Sri Lanka the economic hub of Asia and as a State institution, Sri Lanka Insurance will be taking centre stage in this economic development.”

He also stated that Sri Lanka Insurance was a profit making entity in the State sector, nullifying all myths that State institutions are a burden to the Treasury. This has been proved with the recent acquisition of the multinational Shell Gas now rebranded as Litro Gas and operated as a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Insurance.

The Defence Secretary in his speech stated that the President had paved the way for a secure Sri Lanka where all people could carry out their respective duties in peace and that Sri Lanka Insurance would be an example for other State sector institutions to work towards being profitable institutions.

Jayasuriya, who has served SLIC for 46 years, delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the employees and paid tribute to all employees who received long service awards and thanked the Board of Directors for recognising employees with long service records.
