The team of financial professionals from NDB, which represented Asia and Europe cluster at the seventh International Asset & Liability Management Competition emerged champions of the competition at the grand finale held on 2 July. The event was organised for the seventh consecutive year by a consortium of international agencies that promote financial development globally.
The competition was conducted in two phases. The first phase, which lasted three months, was an online exercise. Several banks from all over the world participated in the first round. Four finalists were invited to Paris for the final round of the competition. During the second phase, participants were tested thoroughly on their ability to make sound judgments on the management of a financial institution under different internal and external scenarios. The NDB team emerged as the winners which satisfied overall risk management skills coupled with profitability and stability.
Commenting on the team’s performance, NDB Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Theagarajah stated, “This competition offered us a unique opportunity to showcase our ALM and Risk Management skills globally.” He further said, “We are extremely proud and happy of this achievement by our very own financial experts at NDB. A victory at an international competition of such stature is clear affirmation of the high level of expertise and proficiency of our team and places NDB on top at a global level and also brings prides to Sri Lanka.”
The team from NDB comprised of Group CFO Faizan Ozman, Vice President Treasury Niran Mahawatte, ALM Assistant Vice President Gehan Biyanwila, Finance and Strategic Planning Assistant Vice President Chandana Guniyangoda and ALM Assistant Manager Rashitha Perera.
