Thilan joins SMB Leasing Board

Top professional Thilan Wijesinghe has joined the Board of SMB Leasing Plc as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 3 September 2015.

Two directors directly control 46% of the voting stake in the company with T. Senthilverl holding near 30% and Chairman Ravi Wijeratne accounting for 16.35%BUP_DFT_DFT-6-7

With the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of SMB Leasing Plc comprises H.R.S. Wijeratne (Chairman), G.C.B. Ranasinghe, U. Gautam, J.C. Korale, T. Senthilverl, S.N.P. Palihena and W.A.T.M. Wijesinghe. 

The company has assets worth Rs. 1.3 billion and saw its group pre-tax profit rise by 10% to Rs. 41.2 million in the first half of 2015.

At present Wijesinghe functions as chairman and shareholder of TW Corp. Ltd., a real estate-focused investment advisory and development management company, Digital Commerce Lanka Ltd., an ecommerce partnership with Dialog Axiata Plc and Sapphirus Lanka Ltd., which exports precision-manufactured sapphire to premium international jewellers. He is also on the Board of leisure companies affiliated to MJF Group and several other public and private companies.

Wijesinghe was also a former chairman and director general of the Board of Investments.

Having started his career as a Senior Management Consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Colombo and Head of Planning at Sampath Bank, Wijesinghe cofounded Asia Capital. He also worked as CEO and MD of Asian Hotels Corporation Plc, Forbes and Walker Ltd. and Overseas Realty Plc. He is also a co-founder of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.

Wijesinghe graduated with honours from the State University of New York and Cornell University USA with three BSc degrees in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering and Economics.
