Thimal appointed to HNB Assurance Board

HNB Deputy General Manager – Retail and SME Banking Thimal Perera has been appointed to the Board of HNB Assurance Plc as a Non Executive Non Independent Director.

He also a Director of HNB General Insurance Ltd., and HNB Grameen Finance Ltd.

At HNB he has overall responsibility for the retail banking and SME banking verticals including ebanking and the branch network.

Thimal completed his Articles at Ernst & Young and then joined HSBC Sri Lanka in 1992 after completing his Chartered Accountancy. During his career at HSBC he held different positions including the Manager of its main branch, Head of Marketing and Public Relations and the Head of Cards for Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Thereafter he joined the Commercial Bank of Qatar in the capacity of Group Head of Cards and subsequently joined HSBC in Saudi Arabia (Saudi British Bank) as its Head of Cards and Consumer Finance. Thereafter he moved within HSBC to its Middle East Regional Head Office in the UAE as the Regional Head of Cards and Digital Channels of HSBC – Middle East and North Africa where he was responsible for 10 markets across the Gulf Cooperation Countries, Levant, North Africa and Pakistan.

His last role prior to returning to Sri Lanka was with Barclays Bank Plc in the capacity of Director of Products – Retail and SME for the UAE market.

With the latest change, the Board of Directors of HNB Assurance Plc comprises of Rose Cooray (Chairperson), S.C. Ratwatte, J.A.P.M. Jayasekera, K. Balasundaram, D.P.N. Rodrio, S.N. Wickramasinghe, S. Selliah and N.H.T.I. Perera.
