Two ex-Central Bankers join BRAC Lanka Finance Board

Two former Central Bankers have been appointed to the Board of Directors of BRAC Lanka Finance Plc with effect from 6 April.

This is following the resignation of Dr. Harsha Cabral PC, and former Central Bank Deputy Governor Priyantha Fernando from the Board.

A.J. Luxman Peiris has been appointed Senior Independent Director and W.R.A. Dharmaratne as Independent Non Executive Director.

Peiris retired as Additional Director of the Central Bank after a 25 year career during which he worked in several different departments including Economic Research, Domestic Operations and Payments and Settlements.

He holds a BSc from the University of Kelaniya, an MSc in agricultural Economics from the University of Reading UK, and MSc in Quantitative Development Economics from the University of Warwick UK.

Peiris served as the Vice President of the Clearing Association of Bankers (CAB) and was also the Coordinator of CBSL SEACEN Financial Statistics.

Apart from two years spent overseas in postgraduate studies, Dharmaratne had an unbroken service record at the Central Bank from 1990.

He worked in several different divisions including Economic Research, Currency, Financial Sector Research and Human Resource.

He holds a BA in Development Studies (Special Statistics) from the University of Sri Jayewardenapura, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from the University of Colombo, an MA in Economics from the University of Essex, UK and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Technology from the University of Colombo.

The two directors who resigned, Dr. Cabral and Priyantha Fernando were appointed in November 2014 with resignation submitted in June 2015. 

A fully owned subsidiary of Commercial Leasing and Finance Plc, the Board of Directors of BRAC Lanka Plc following the recent changes comprises of Ishara Nanayakkara (Chairman), Kapila Jayawardena, R.D. Tissera, A.J.L. Peiris and W.R.A. Dharmaratne.
