Union Assurance unveils mobile technology to make life claim payments

Union Assurance Plc one of the leading and innovative insurance companies in Sri Lanka has gone one step further in using technology to provide convenience to its customers by facilitating life insurance claim payments from any Commercial Bank branch.  

“Union Assurance strives to deliver the promise of trust, based on the pillars of transparency, respectful & convenience as per our brand promise,” Jayaseeli Dissanayake, General Manager- Life said. “We started the year 2011 with the launching of a trilingual web site, being the 1st in the insurance industry, in order to be respectful and transparent to the community. With the launch of this innovative claim settlement process we will re-establish the pillar of convenience and strengthen our brand further,” he added.

A life policy holder of Union Assurance could now get the claim in cash from any Commercial Bank branch island wide.  We have already been practicing this with our motor insurance claims and due to the sprawling success we implemented same to our life policy holders to expedite the claim payments. “The Life Customers who claim their policy monies at maturity or those customers who make a claim on any living benefit offered under a life insurance policy can now get their claim money by walking into any Commercial Bank branch, explained Dissanayake.

The scheme provides three options for the customer.  The claimant can walk into  any  Commercial  Bank branch to, get his or her claim in cash by proving the identity ,or to collect a cheque drawn to his/her account  of any bank.  In the alternative the claimant can opt for a direct transfer of his claim entitlement to his or her account maintained at any bank. “We already had many customers enjoying this facility, since the launch of the scheme on 3 January 2011,”Dissanayake added.

Customers can notify their preferred choice of claim to the company, and once the claim is processed the company will send a Personal Identification Number “PIN” via a SMS to his/her mobile phone. The claimant can produce the PIN number to a teller at Commercial bank to get his claim paid.
