The first Union Bank branded train was ceremonially flagged off on 21 December 2010 from the Fort Railway Station in the presence of officials from both Union Bank and Sri Lanka Railways.

This is the first time a Bank in Sri Lanka has branded a S8 power set. The dual engine train along with seven carriages is expected to create prominent awareness for the Bank brand.

A.G. Mahanama GM – Sri Lanka Railways, Asoka De Silva – Senior Director, Anil Amarasuriya – Director/CEO and Nilanth De Silva – COO of Union Bank along with members of the corporate management and marketing team were present at the event.

A spokesperson for the bank highlighted that this initiative was part of the bank’s image-building process, which enables the taking of the bank brand across the island to a wider spectrum of consumers, thus creating greater awareness for its products and services.

The colorfully branded train displaying its key retail brands took its first journey from Colombo to Rambukkana.
