Ceylinco Insurance Plc has announced the appointment of S.H.J. Weerasuriya as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the company.
Weerasuriya is also the Independent Non-Executive Chairman at Mercantile Investments and Finance Plc and has been on its Board since January 2011.
A Chartered Engineer, he is the proprietor of Saro Weerasuriya Associates and counts over 35 years’ experience as a consultant in civil and structural engineering design and project management in UK, Sri Lanka, India and the Maldives. He holds a Bsc (London), MICE, FIE (SL), and FSSE (SL). He is also a Director of International Civil Engineering Consultants Ltd., and Kognoscenti Ltd.
The appointment with effect from 17 February is subject to the approval of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka.
The move follows the resignation of P.M.B. Fernando from the Ceylinco Insurance Board as an Executive Director from 17 February. He was also the Chief Information Officer (General) of the company.
Fernando was appointed to the Board in October 2008 and headed the entire IT operation of Ceylinco Insurance PLC – General Division. He joined the company in January 1993. Prior to that Fernando had a 15 years of experience at International Computers Ltd. (ICL). During this period he gained an in-depth experience and knowledge in computer hardware, networking and software. At the time of leaving ICL he held the post of Systems Engineer.
