Young Lekamge appointed Deputy Chairman at The Finance

Young professional A.P. Lekamge has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of The Finance Plc.

He was appointed to the Board only in July last year as an Independent Non Executive Director.

The Board of TFC comprises Preethi Jayawardena (Chairman), V.W. Dissanayake (Executive Director), K.J. Yatawara  (Chief Executive Officer), T.B. Ekanayake (Executive Director), A.L. Devasurendra (Independent Non-Executive Director), R. Nadarajah (Independent Non-Executive Director), T. Senthilverl  (Non-Executive Director) and C. Rosa (Independent Non-Executive Director).

Lekamge holds a M.Sc in Risk Management. He started his career as a teaching instructor and as a teacher at Ananda College, Colombo, with a National Diploma in Education. He kept remarkable records at the Finance and Management Faculty of the University of Colombo. Further he completed his post graduate studies gaining a specialised M.Sc. in Risk Management at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.

He reserves an acclaimed name in the field of insurance and risk management.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Supreme Court nominated Lekamge to the Board of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation as an Executive Director where he served till June 2010. Further he served as a Director at Ceylon Asset Management Co.

His entrepreneurial record has made him one of the top business personalities in Sri Lanka and currently he chairs a diversified group of companies which includes international schools and international trading, transport and logistics sectors.

Furthermore Lekamge has contributed his leadership skills, knowledge and experience to addressing national needs. As Senior National Coordinator handling 52 Red Cross National Societies around the globe, he still leads the team of experts, being Head of Recoveries, Technical Support Services and Red Cross Consultancy Services at the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS).

Under his guidance and leadership so far SLRCS completed and handed over 30,000 houses, 77 health infrastructure facilities and large water supply projects to assist victims of all tsunami-affected districts in Sri Lanka.

With his contribution to the nation he has developed strong links with local professionals, local ministries and international organisations including the United Nations, World Bank, and International Federation of Red Cross.
