Properties from Asia Leisure Hotels were recognised for their master culinary skills with 18 awards at the Culinary Art Food Expo 2019 held at the BMICH recently. Southeast Asia’s largest food and hospitality show and culinary challenge the Culinary Art Food Expo is an annual event organised by the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka, together with the World Association of Chefs Societies and CDC Events and Travels.
Over 3,000 chefs working in resorts, hotels and restaurants across the island as well as from overseas participated in the competition in a wide range of categories in both live and static contests. The various events were judged by 32 international culinary judges from 14 countries, while foreign contestants and teams from Abu Dhabi, Australia, India, Maldives and Philippines also took part.
Culinary presentations were judged based on creativity, hygiene, taste, texture, flavour and appearance by a panel of reputed local and foreign judges who also took into account ingredients and sourcing, nutrition, and historical significance. Asia Leisure properties Taprobana Wadduwa, The Habitat Kosgoda and Shinagawa Beach Balapitiya participated.
Taprobana took home 10 awards including two Gold awards, three Silver awards and five Bronze awards in the appetiser, dessert, Sri Lankan cooking and mocktail categories, while The Habitat won three awards including one Gold. Meanwhile, Shinagawa Beach was recognised for their superior culinary skills with five awards, including one Gold, two Silver and two Bronze awards. The Gold winners will participate in the upcoming Culinary Olympics to be held in February 2020 in Germany.
