First Michelin star Sri Lankan chef shares insights with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts chef teams

Cinnamon Lakeside hosted Chef Lahiru Jayasekera, the first Michelin star Sri Lankan chef from UK on 11 July, where he conducted a special Master Class session for 40 chefs from Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts. Chef Lahiru was in Colombo as part of the pre-training for Bocuse d’Or Sri Lanka, under the auspices of Dilmah.

The initiative was spearheaded by Rohan Fernandopulle, President of Bocuse d’Or Sri Lanka; Head of Food and Beverage/Culinary – Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts; and General Manager – Cinnamon Lakeside, to give the chefs an insight into exquisite cuisine preparation, and encourage and inspire the talented chefs within the Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts properties.

Chef Lahiru, more commonly known as ‘Chef Larry’, first shared the story of his humble beginnings and the events that led to a career in the culinary arts. He then demonstrated the preparation and creation of some of his signature, world-renowned dishes, with emphasis on lamb, beef and duck inspired fare.

Chef Lahiru has several accolades to his name, including the Young Chef of the Year UK 2007 and National Chef of the Year UK 2016. Bocuse d’Or Sri Lanka is a non-profit organisation consisting of renowned chefs and hospitality industry professionals dedicated to uplift the culinary standards of Sri Lanka and facilitate the appointment of local candidates for the Bocuse d’Or competition, a biennial world chef championship in Lyon, France, named after Chef Paul Bocuse.
