Cake-mixing was done in the 17th century to signal the start of the harvest season. The method for making cake is still being used today. Back then, this custom was followed within families but today it is observed by non-Christian houses as well. Nowadays, a lot of hotels have communal cake-mixing events in which you may sign up and take part. (ZR)
