Jetwing Colombo Seven teams up with Colombo Supper Club to bring vivid heritage of Spanish Tapas to

Featuring yet another fusion dining experience, this time around the Colombo Supper Club together with Jetwing Colombo Seven will be hosting Chef Carlos from Barcelona. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on 4 October, Restaurant – 57 of Jetwing Colombo Seven. 

Bringing with him close to 10 years of culinary experience, the 28 year old Head Chef will be responsible for curating the menu and overseeing daily operations at Esquina. “Esquina is a charming space that really reminds me of the vibrant tapas bars back home and I am very excited to be a part of it. I’ve always loved the process of creation and with this opportunity, I hope to bring a part of Spain I grew up with to the menu at Esquina,” says Chef Carlos. 

With a background specialising in European cuisine and pastry, Chef Carlos has spent time developing and mastering innovative preparation techniques under the tutelage of highly respected chefs including the Roca brothers from the 3 Michelin star and recurring #1 on the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants list – Celler de Can Roca (Spain), and Chef Hilario Arbelaitz from 2 Michelin star restaurant, Zuberoa (Spain). Further establishing himself in the dining scene, he spent three years honing his gastronomic craft as a sous chef at the Michelin-starred haute Catalan restaurant, CINC Sentits (Spain).

Taking after its namesake (translated from Spanish as “the corner”), “Esquina” is a two-story tapas joint tucked away at the corner of Jiak Chuan Road. A creative partnership between local entrepreneur Loh Lik Peng and Michelin-starred Chef, Jason Atherton of Pollen Street Social (London), Esquina is an urban and cosy canteen inspired by the vibrant tapas bars found in Spain. 

Colombo Supper Club is a venture founded by former lawyer, travel enthusiast and passionate foodie Naserah Tyebally, a Singaporean who now calls Sri Lanka home. She aims to use her multiple platforms to uplift the culinary scene in Colombo and showcase global trends in wining and dining around the world. Discerning diners are given the opportunity to try trending cuisines and bold and interesting flavours from acclaimed restaurateurs and mixologists. It features celebrity chefs and their pop up restaurants that showcase their standout dishes usually by way of a wine paired tasting menu in a warm and intimate setting. To date Colombo supper club has featured, Rishi Naleendra from Cheek by Jowl, Andrew Walsh from Cure, Sun Kim from Meta as well as Jennifer Lee and Christian Hartmann from Vasco. The supper club has met an enthusiastic response and Naserah is eager to test new waters by constantly bringing innovative elements to the supper club to leave diners wondering “what next”. 

Jetwing Colombo Seven is the newest addition to the renowned chain, marking its first venture into the capital city. Its rooftop offers stunning views of the metropolis and the hotel itself is situated in one of Colombo’s most central neighbourhoods. All main attractions, be they lush green parks, scenic waterways, shopping centres or chic nightlife are barely a stone’s throw away. Its fusion restaurant – 57, boasts intriguing dishes created from the finest local and international produce. Mouth-watering burgers to decadent desserts, all served with signature Jetwing hospitality, have made this a strong contender to be a city favourite for wining and dining.
