‘McCurrie’, the renowned brand of spices and spice-related products, for over three decades, has become a household name for housewives, reputed for its quality and reliability. It is now available in the retail market, within the Western Province.
Over the past three and half decades (35 years),McCurrie has served the Sri Lankan consumers through all major retail channels in the modern trade, and through their own showrooms.
Responding to growing consumer demand across a wider cross-section of consumers spread around the country, Lanka Spice Ltd. (LSL), owners of the ‘McCurrie’ brand, has partnered with a leading retail distributor TSL Holdings, to make their products available in the retail market. With this engagement, distribution roll-out will commence in the western province and will expand into the rest of the country.
To mark the official commencement of the distribution of Mc Currie products into the retail market, a ceremony was held at the Head Office of TSL Holdings located in Boralesgamuwa, recently. LSL Chairman Nalin Pathikirikorale, Director Mikhail Pathikirikorale, General Manager Rosy Weerasinghe, Head of Sales Chaminda Wijeratne, Consultant Manju Ariyaratne and TSL Holdings Ltd. Managing Director Asoka Karunaratne and other management personnel of the company were present at this event.
“Using the best available raw materials from the most reliable suppliers has been a part of the founding philosophy of Mc Currie. With it, we have been able to establish Mc Currie as a Premium Quality Spice Brand and our products have been channelled through the Modern Trade over the years. With the rapid geographical expansion of the main retail channels, customer demand for Mc Currie products across the country has been growing significantly, clearly indicating the need to make our products available in the general trade. Bringing our products “closer to home” we have now partnered with TSL Holdings, one of the pioneering distributors in the country, reputed for their experience and expertise, in redistribution in the general trade,” said LSL Chairman Pathikirikorale.
“The secret of our success is that McCurrie products have enjoyed 35 years and more of excellence for its quality and for the continuous maintenance of our products, we employ the highest quality raw materials,” said LSL General Manager Rosy Weerasinghe. She further said that Mc Currie products do not contain artificial flavouring that is harmful. Weerasinghe was also of the view that “by entering the retail market, Mc Currie products will soon be available to consumers who have yet to experience our excellence by way of quality.”
LSL has come a long way in the national spice industry and have over 200 products to its product portfolio under the brand Mc Currie. LSL’s products include all kinds of spices, chutneys, pickles, sauces, sambols, baduns, pastes and the masala range of pre-cooked curry sauces.
Mc Currie has taken a giant step in the export market and is now a popular name globally, including Australia, Maldives, United States of America, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. All Mc Currie products have the hallmark of quality certifications such as ISO 22000:2005 and FSSC 22000 pertaining to food safety.
